(AJPW) Suwama Expressing His Ambitions For The New Year
The All Japan Pro-Wrestling Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship will be up for grabs when the 'Violent Giant' Kohei Suwama (44), and the 'Master Of The Suplex' Shotaro Ashino (31) collide in Korakuen Hall, on the 24th of January. "The Pro-Wrestling Awards" established by the Tokyo Sports Newsletter, came up empty for All Japan as all the days went by without any winners from the promotion being announced last year. The champion, who feels a sense of crisis in the current situation, is poised to take a thorough "aggressive attitude" in 2021, in order to relieve the humiliation.
Suwama who had an unprecedented serious look said, "If you say that there is no sense of crisis, you will be lying. After all, the Pro Wrestling Awards are a place where the work of one year is evaluated. Even if there was corona, there was a difference between the promotions that entered the offence and the ones which entered the defence. I believe All Japan mostly played this year on the defence, and I think that should be done for."
Last year he played an active part in the promotion, as the Triple Crown as well as the World Tag Team Champion alongside Shuji Ishikawa (45). However, in the Pro Wrestling Awards, he missed the best tag award with Shuji Ishikawa for the fourth consecutive year. All the All Japan wrestlers who were nominated for five categories ended up with no winners for the first time in five years.
He would say, "That is why I have to attack in 2021. I'm going to liven up the Triple Crown upfront, and I am going to do it in a time where both New Japan & Noah are big. Big matches are also a motivation for wrestlers."
There is also a venue for him to aim for. It is the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, where Suwama has stood on the stage of Triple Crown matches many times. "Immediately after the Great Japanese Earthquake (In March 2011), All Japan did it in the Ryogoku Kokugikan for the first time in the industry. Because of this age, I want to show attitude and lead the company as there Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion." He strengthened his morale.
To that end, he must first break through the battle with Ashino on the 24th. This time, the title match was decided by a nomination from the champion. He would say,"Last time (June 30th) I wrestled him in an unattended TV match. He was at the bottom, but at the time I thought he was an interesting opponent, and it was raw. I wanted the fans to see it". (Explains the reason for the nomination)
